GLP-1 medications vs. ESG
These are two very different types of intervention. GLP-1 medications are pharmacologic and ongoing. ESG is a one-time endoscopic procedure with a defined recovery.
Mechanism
GLP-1 medications act on appetite, satiety, and glucose regulation through incretin pathways. ESG reduces the effective volume of the stomach mechanically via internal endoscopic sutures.
Ongoing commitment
GLP-1 medications require ongoing prescription and administration; effects generally diminish if the medication is stopped. ESG is a one-time procedure; long-term maintenance still requires nutrition and lifestyle attention.
Cost profile
GLP-1 therapy carries recurring monthly cost. ESG carries a one-time cost with modest follow-up.
Combination
Some patients use medication and procedural options together as part of an individualized plan. Treatment selection should be made with a qualified clinician.
